How does your innovation work?
Awaaz Otalo (AO) is a cell-phone based technology that allows farmers to call in to a hotline, ask questions and receive responses from agricultural scientists and local extension workers. Farmers also receive weekly push-content, which includes time-sensitive information such as weather forecasts and pest planning. By utilizing cell-phone networks to deliver agricultural extension. Farmers will be able to post photos of crops with discreptive problems and ask for solution. Wirte email or connect through other social media through the app. Apart from that, they can send text message as well with complete information. It will be in multi languages. At first in Hindi ,for it is the national language and then in other major regional languages.
SEE LESSStage 3: Proof of Concept
Dispersed rural populations, monitoring difficulties and a lack of accountability limit the efficacy of traditional agricultural extension systems. The recent rapid spread of cell phones to even the most remote locations have created the possibility of providing customized, timely, on-demand agricultural information to hundreds of millions of smallholder farmers. This project proposes to scale and evaluate a promising, open-source service, Awaaz Otalo, which allows farmers to both receive “broadcast” information, and pose questions to expert agronomists.

Problem
India being nation of agriculturists, even at modern age, they are not able to access to information related to issue of agriculture. Farmers don't have easy access to information related to agriculture problems. Crop disease, suitable soil information for each agriculture, medicine, pesticide, watering, and suitable nutrient component needed for their land.
Thus, the farmers are not able to cultivate suitable agriculture at their land and they are not able to treat their crop at right time.
}
Solution
We are focusing on developing an app, which has complete information of all the crops of each region of India. And farmers are able to post photos of their crops affected by disease and get instant solution. Secondly, creating a form of agriculture experts, who are connected through hotline to guide farmers.Thirdly, create a cell of experts, who are available to monitor each request of the farmers and connect to the appropriate agriclutre expert.
Target Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries are small and marginalized farmers of 29 states 7 union territories of India. The farmers, who use mobile phone and reside in hard to reach areas. Our target is to reach out to at least 5000000 farmers through this system within five years. At first , with complete inforamtion app will uploaded in web and give access for one state and subsequently for other states of India.
Mission and Vision
Mission:-
Problems of agriculture solved instantly with use of mobile based app.
VIsion:-
Small and marginalized farmers capacitated on agriculture to decrease dieses, short out issues related to land fertility, be able to cultivate appropriate crops in suitable soil to increase yield
Competitive Advantage
The app that is planned to be developed is going to be user friendly, in multiple languages and interactive in nature with complete information of all the crops, disease of each crops, suitable soil for each crops, and solution. Apart from that, connected to all the social media, email facility, and directly connected through hotliine to AO expert cell. The farmers don't have to go anywhere to learn but the mobile app.
This app will give information of each state as per the local situation with after proper study and findings. Staffs will travel to each state and find out local croping patter and issues being faced by the farmers, soil type and other important elements necessary. Once the complete information is gathered, it will be uploaded in the app and acess to farmers of that particular state will be permissible.
Planned Goals and Milestones
The service is run in cooperation with the Development Support Centre (DSC), an NGO with decades of experience in providing agricultural extension services. AO will solve many challenges in traditional extension models. Importantly, AO will have capability to reach millions of farmers at a virtually at marginal cost. Additionally, through providing a forum in which content provision is demand-driven, AO will provide customized information that is easily accessible and relevant. Finally, whereas extension agents are difficult to monitor, content provision on AO will be easily monitored through a central forum.
